I was an emergency and critical care veterinarian for dogs and cats before leaving practice to work for a large pharmaceutical company as a Professional Services Veterinarian providing technical support for the Sales Team.
Anxious to expand my experience and horizons, I jumped at the opportunity to join Dechra. My role is to help develop new and innovative products that improve the quality of life for animals and in some cases, help save the lives of animals that might not make it without medical intervention. It feels great to know I am making a difference for thousands of animals and their owners.
In my role, I conduct the scientific research needed to determine if a drug is both safe and efficacious in the shortest time possible to bring a product to the market.
I love being a part of the “Dechra family”. I work part-time so I can care for my young family which means that I get the best of both worlds; working in a stimulating and challenging environment and getting to see my own family grow too. I can’t ask for anything better.
We work hard each day, but we care for one another and laugh a lot which makes coming to work more fun. Outside the office, we equally enjoy team building events such as cooking treats for the local dog shelter or homemade meals for the Ronald McDonald House Charity, and if it’s your birthday, there will definitely be a great lunch out.
I joined Dechra as a temp. I’m from Estonia originally and I couldn’t speak Danish but I worked hard at both my language skills and my job. I was so excited when Dechra recognised that I was delivering and performing well and offered me a permanent job. How cool is that?
My role is to register Dechra’s deliveries, booking in the products, pharmaceuticals and instruments into the system. I check that we have the right paperwork and certificates and chase up any missing articles.
Because of Dechra’s growth the warehouse has got busier and busier, so much so that now there is another person helping me - which is great as it means that I can concentrate on some process improvements and planning activities.
As well as the work, the social side is amazing too! There’s something every week and we’ve had some fun trips to the Zoo and the theatre and Dechra’s summer parties and Christmas dinners are pretty special.
I’ve spoken to my manager and he knows that I’m keen to progress. Who knows what the future holds? It feels great to be part of Dechra.
I graduated from university with a degree in Multi Media and Web Technology and Design. The course was diverse and included some elements of IT programming too. After university I worked as a Network Engineer in a school with responsibility for their IT and Virtual Learning. I presented to Primary School kids about IT too and I considered teaching full time until fate intervened with the opportunity to join Dechra. I recognised it as a great opportunity and couldn’t turn it down and, to be honest, I haven’t looked back.
I’m a Digital Marketing Developer. It’s easy to see how my background in IT and Multi Media stand me in good stead for this position. I work in the Digital Marketing Team and we are responsible for anything that is on the web about Dechra. It’s a lot of material. We manage the Dechra corporate sites, the HR website, any product microsites and all online emails and newsletters. I also build 3D images for every product brought to market by Dechra.
I love my job. The best bit is that I’m doing what I love every day. It’s stimulating, different, interesting and I am learning all the time.
I’m really impressed by the culture at Dechra too. I have made some firm friends with the team in Sansaw. We get some great “freebies” too – a day out at the races for example. We also take part in some pretty fun sporting events too – it’s not compulsory or anything – but I love it. I’m doing the Vet Challenge later this year which is trail running, biking and kayaking. Wish me Luck.
I studied Forensic and Medical Science at University and worked in a micro-lab before joining Dechra. I work in Quality Control and I test all the raw materials that go into the manufacture of Dechra products. I love it because the work is varied every day and not repetitive. I’m always learning new things and conducting new tests that I’ve never used before. There is so much to learn. I work with some fabulous scientists whose knowledge is so vast. They are happy to share their skills with me. I also love the fact that the work we do is vital in maintaining the health and well-being of animals worldwide.
Dechra is a great place to work. I feel secure in my role. Dechra is a growing company and international – so I think there are long term opportunities for all of us. It’s a great environment. I feel really part of the wider team and valued by my colleagues. I would recommend a career with Dechra to graduates of all science/animal related disciplines.
I’d like to progress to team leader – and there may be opportunities within Quality Control for me to widen my experience.
I think that Dechra is an amazing place to work. I joined as part of the Apprentice scheme and I work in the warehouse handling incoming orders from our customers. My hours of work, from 7 in the morning until 3 in the afternoon, make for a great work life balance. I love the fact that I have free time every day for sports and studying. One of those sports is the weekly bowling game with Team Dechra taking on other companies!
When I first started at Dechra I was impressed with the emphasis placed on both Quality and Health & Safety and how focused all of my colleagues were on maintaining very high standards. It’s also great that the company recognises and celebrates the success of its employees.
My ambition is to progress within Dechra and I have talked this through with my manager who is very supportive of my aspirations. Overall I am so happy and proud to be a Dechra person and I love to go to work every day.
After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant and beginning my career with Ernst & Young I moved into industry and gained experience in both retail and media before joining the pharmaceutical sector with Astra Zeneca where my role included a global remit for Compliance and Internal Audit.
Seeking a new challenge, and more responsibility, I was attracted to Dechra because of their involvement in animal healthcare and, having grown up on a farm, I recognised the vital role that they play in maintaining the health and well-being of both livestock and pets.
It was a good move. As Head of Internal Audit and Risk Assurance I report to the Board and have a genuine opportunity to influence the growth of Dechra at a global level. As with any growing company, it is important that risk is identified early and that both business improvement processes and appropriate control mechanisms are implemented across Dechra’s worldwide locations.
I’m really happy at Dechra. The culture is one of trust, integrity and openness and I love working in an environment where everyone is genuinely supportive and will go the extra mile to enable you to do your job to the best of your ability.
