About Callum W.

Key experience
From COVID-19 products to animal healthcare
After graduating from the University of Gloucestershire with a first-class degree in International Business Management, I initially planned to build a career in supply chain. However, my trajectory changed when I took on a role as a marketing executive at an eCommerce company in Bournemouth, specialising in infection control products. This role offered a unique perspective during the COVID-19 pandemic, allowing me to address the challenges of the crisis with adaptability and focus. In January 2022, I made a significant career move by relocating from the sunny south coast to my hometown of Sutton Coldfield in the West Midlands to join Dechra. This transition marked the beginning of a new chapter where I have continued to apply my skills and experiences in a dynamic role. Despite the challenges of the pharmaceutical industry, stepping into this new field has proven to be one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. At Dechra, I have led numerous marketing campaigns for new product launches and existing campaign refreshes. The skills gained within my previous role have enabled me to implement a comprehensive multi-channel approach, enhancing the customer journey and ensuring our campaigns are as effective and beneficial as possible for veterinary teams.
Current position
I create engaging & informative campaigns for veterinarians
Since joining Dechra, I was given the opportunity to progress from a Junior Product Manager role to the role of European Product Manager within 18 months of joining the business. I now work closely with various agencies to craft impactful and visually compelling marketing campaigns. I balance creativity with accuracy to create campaigns that not only capture attention but also deliver valuable, easy-to-understand content for veterinarians and their clients, bridging gaps in communication about complex health conditions. Through strategic planning and coordination, I ensure our messaging resonates with our audience while upholding the integrity and benefits of our products. Collaborating with colleagues across Europe and beyond, I oversee a seamless customer journey, aligning strategies to provide a cohesive and satisfying experience for our clients.
Main motivation
Working to create innovative resources to enhance veterinary support
My main motivation at work is to develop innovative digital resources that support veterinarians while advancing sustainability efforts. I’m driven by the challenge of creating tools and strategies that enhance the day-to-day operations of veterinary professionals. By focusing on delivering impactful and sustainable solutions within my marketing campaigns, I aim to contribute to both the efficiency of veterinary practices and our commitment to environmental stewardship. Additionally, I’m passionate about ensuring that everything we create has real value & helps to keep Dechra ahead of industry trends, ensuring we remain at the forefront of veterinary marketing and technology.
Top advice
Don't be afraid, push yourself out of your comfort zone!
Coming into the animal healthcare industry with no prior experience was daunting at first and i would be lying if i said i didn't find adapting to a completely new industry challenging! However, stepping out of my comfort zone has truly helped me grow into my role & progress to where i find myself today. It's natural to feel hesitant at first when joining a new business, but remember that the most rewarding experiences often come from taking risks and challenging yourself. When you push beyond what's familiar, you open the door to new opportunities and self-development. Embrace the uncertainty, and trust in your ability to adapt and thrive. Each step outside your comfort zone builds confidence and a much greater understanding of your potential. So, take the leap and push yourself out of your comfort zone.
Greatest achievement
Being recognised as an emerging marketing talent in the industry
In 2024, I was nominated for the "New Marketing Talent of the Year" award at the Veterinary Marketing Association awards. This recognition came as a result of my innovative approach to marketing within the pharmaceutical industry, where I successfully led campaigns that not only captured attention but also delivered valuable insights to veterinarians and pet owners. My dedication to exploring multiple marketing channels, implementing innovative ideas, and maintaining a data-driven approach helped me to earn the nomination.
