The Opportunity

The Director, External Manufacturing (ExM) Operations Lead, is responsible for supply performance across a diverse network of Contract Manufacturing Organizations (CMOs) involving small molecule and large molecule drug product (sterile / non-sterile) and packaging operations that represent a wide range of dosage forms. This role serves as the External Manufacturing Operations Lead for a designated region with responsibility for multiple CMO entities.

So, what will you be doing? This role has a broad and varied scope and the successful candidate will have responsibility for duties including:

• The role is responsible for an organization of "Virtual Plant Managers" based regionally. The role serves as a control tower of all information and interactions between the company and CMO partners.

• Key areas of focus include objective setting both internally and externally, operationalizing rules of engagement aligned with contractual obligations, strengthening the internal / external partnerships, issue escalation, prioritization, and execution of supply plans and projects of any scale.

• Oversees cross-functional teams including representatives from Operations, Quality, Technology, Planning, Procurement, and Finance with responsibility for delivery performance across the CMO network within the assigned region.

• Accountable for all operational related activities.

• Ensure reliable and on-time supply.

• Compliance (Quality Risk Management, Deviation Management, Product Release, Change Control)

• Dispute Resolution, including appropriate escalation.

• Technology (project execution, deviation resolution, CAPAs).

• Deployment of internal resources to CMO partners where needed.

• Linking with Supply Chain to ensure optimal end-to-end flow of product.

• Responsible for Financial Planning (annual Budget, Long-Range Capital Plan, monthly reviews and Estimated / Actual projections).

• Builds a strong interdependent relationship across the CMO partners, and engages with site and business leadership with high degrees of collaboration.

• Proactively anticipates areas of risk and opportunity while identifying and executing action plans to mitigate risk and optimize supply reliability.

• Partners with Procurement, Quality, Technology, and Supply Chain on commercial aspects of the CMO relationships, including recommendations associated with any part of the relationship lifecycle and strategic considerations associated with the company's Manufacturing and Supply Network (Identify, Select, Negotiate, Develop, Terminate), as required.

• Maintains KPIs and proactively addresses performance gaps.

• Core member of project teams involving capital investments, New Product Commercialization, Make vs. Buy evaluations, CMO evaluation / selection, and business development due diligence.

• Monitors capacity utilization across the network and proactively identifies both near and long-term needs.

• Applies Lean Six Sigma methods as an integrated "way of working" and coaches team members on the application of the methods.

• Drives Integrated Risk Management across the assigned region (risk assessments, prioritization, mitigation planning).

• Contributes to the development of the External Manufacturing Strategy with a direct and clear link to the Internal Manufacturing Strategy.
