The Opportunity

The Director of Public Relations leads the development and execution of strategic PR initiatives across North America to enhance the reputation, visibility and thought leadership of Dechra within the Animal Health Industry. This hands-on role focuses on media relations, execution communications, and storytelling that highlight Dechra's commitment to animal care, focus products and innovation, and sustainability. This role is highly collaborative and operates cross-functionally between Communications, Commercial Marketing and sales.

Role Responsibility

So, what will you be doing? This role has a broad and varied scope and the successful candidate will have responsibility for duties including:

Public Relations Strategy Creation & Execution
  • Develop and lead integrated PR strategies to strengthen the company's reputation in North America, aligned with corporate objectives and brand messaging.
  • Media Relations: Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with top-tier national, trade, and regional media. Serve as a company spokesperson and media liaison.
  • Reputation and Issues Management: Proactively support external communications during issues or crises, working cross-functionally with legal, regulatory, medical and executive teams.

Product & Brand Communications
  • Partner with marketing and commercial teams to support product launches, innovation updates and key stakeholder (veterinary healthcare teams and pet owners) engagement through PR.
  • Equine and Companion Animal Focus: Ensure storytelling and media engagement reflects deep understanding of the animal health landscape, veterinary needs, and pet owner perspectives.

Agency and Vendor Management
  • Oversee and direct external PR agencies, ensuring alignment with strategy, quality execution, and budget control.

Measurement and Reporting
  • Establish KPIs and regularly report on the impact of PR activities to internal stakeholders.


The Ideal Candidate

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in Public Relations, preferably within the Animal Health, Human Health or Life Sciences Industry.
  • Demonstrated experience in promoting FDA-approved brands through a variety of strategies including media relations and third party influencer campaigns
  • Strong understanding of both the North American media landscape and regulatory/compliance considerations in healthcare or animal health communications.
  • Experience managing agencies, budgets and multi=stakeholder initiatives.
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to operate hands-on and independently.
  • The ability to work in a matrixed environment with cross-functional partners.
  • Ability to travel
