This role can be performed remotely in any European Dechra entity* The Opportunity The Senior Director, Global Clinical will provide vision and leadership to the Global Clinical team of 13+ veterinarians, veterinary technicians and animal scientists, based in multiple locations in N. America and Europe. The role holder will create a culture of delivery within the team in their project leader and efficacy leader roles to deliver quality projects as quickly as possible and at an appropriately aggressive level of risk.
The successful candidate will provide strategic and scientific support to multiple research and development projects for the development, registration and maintenance on the market of veterinary medicines in the Dechra portfolio. This role will develop the technical and leadership skills of the team as efficacy leaders and as project leaders. In addition, the Senior Director may from time to time be a project leader for one or more EU, US or global development projects within the Dechra R&D portfolio.
The Senior Director, Global Clinical will represent the Clinical research and development function and team on the Dechra Product Development Leadership Team (PD-LT) and will ensure the provision of specialist clinical development expertise to the wider Dechra on an as-needed basis. As a member of the PD-LT the Senior Director, Global Clinical will work with the other Product Development and Regulatory Affairs (PDRA) Department Heads to make strategic decisions on the progression of the R&D portfolio and will sponsor the constant improvement of the development process.
Main Responsibilities So, what will you be doing? This role has a broad and varied remit and the successful candidate will have responsibility for duties including:
- Lead, coach, mentor and line / performance manage a team of veterinarians and animal scientists, across the US and EU, providing efficacy expertise to development project teams.
- Develop / expand the veterinary pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical development knowledge and expertise of the Global Clinical Team.
- Ensure that clinical programmes are delivered on time and on budget, with an appropriate level of quality applied to studies from early proof of concept through GCP clinical field studies.
- Grow and develop the project leadership skills of Global Clinical team members
- Support and sponsor the personal development of all members of the Global Clinical team to maximize their potential.
- Represent the Global Clinical team on the Dechra PD-LT and PDRA Extended Leadership Teams as an active participant within both of those leadership teams.
- Influence, own and demonstrate the leadership ideas, attitudes and plans of the PD-LT and implement them within Global Clinical and within Product Development as a whole, as required.
- On an ad hoc basis provide leadership across the wider Product Development.
- Identify and influence key-stakeholders across Dechra.
- Actively build and sponsor inter-departmental collaboration and linkage within PDRA and Dechra as a whole.
- Attend, contribute to and lead external meetings and seek to influence external stakeholders outside the company when opportunities arise.
- Determine project resourcing requirements and priorities and assign individuals to support them based on skillset and workload.
- Determine the future structure of the Global Clinical team and make hiring decisions on new personnel when needed.
- Maintain budgetary responsibility for the Global Clinical team.
- As required, be a project leader for one or more EU, US or global development projects within the Dechra R&D portfolio.
