The Opportunity The Senior Strategic Account Manager (SSAM) is responsible for leading the commercial relationship and growth strategy for Chew and other key online retail partners within the animal health channel. This role will develop and execute business plans, optimize digital merchandising and promotional strategy, and drive category growth through data-driven insights and collaboration across marketing, supply chain, finance, and medical.
The ideal candidate combines
deep e-commerce expertise, specifically with Chewy, with a strong understanding of animal health, channel dynamics, and customer engagement in the pet retail space.
So, what will you be doing? This role has a broad and varied scope and the successful candidate will have responsibility for duties including:
Retain and Develop Strong Client Relationships

Serve as the primary relationship owner for Chewy and assigned e-commerce accounts, ensuring alignment on category strategy, product portfolio, and joint business objectives.
- Cultivate and maintain deep, strategic relationships with C-suite executives and other key decision-makers, acting as a trusted advisor.
- Lead large-scale client projects and serve as the primary point of escalation for complex issues or high-stakes negotiations.
- Collaborate with internal teams (sales, marketing, medical, customer service) to ensure the best possible client experience.

Lead Strategic Account Growth:
- Drive multi-year growth strategies for high-value accounts, leveraging deep market knowledge, innovation, and competitive insights to unlock new opportunities.
- Work with senior leadership to create and execute strategic plans that drive long-term business expansion.
- Identify opportunities for cross-selling and upselling, ensuring solutions meet clients' evolving needs.

Collaborate Across Teams:
- Serve as a strategic partner to leadership and internal teams, aligning Dechra's offerings with client needs.
- Lead and mentor teams ensuring alignment and consistent high performance.
- Share key market insights and client feedback to help shape the company's offerings and drive business improvement.

Analyze & Report on Success:
- Prepare insightful reports on account performance, revenue growth, and opportunities for further success.
- Conduct regular business reviews with clients, assessing progress, uncovering new opportunities, and ensuring satisfaction.

Own Financial & Operational Management:
- Manage customer discounts, rebates, and ensure a sharp understanding of revenue versus margin to optimize profitability.
- Work closely with leadership to ensure business goals are met and ensure strategic alignment for long-term success.
- Manage P&L for major accounts ensuring financial health and profitability through cost effective strategies.
- Lead cross-functional initiatives to streamline operations, reduce costs, and create value for both the company and assigned strategic accounts.

Leadership & Mentoring:
- Mentor and onboard team members, providing strategic direction to elevate overall account management performance.
- Support peer development to ensure consistent client experiences.

Strategic Vision, Influence & Complex Negotiations:
- Lead long-term strategic initiatives that contribute to the company's growth and direction.
- Identify emerging market trends and opportunities, shaping strategies for key accounts.
- Initiate contract negotiations, renewals, and pricing discussions, ensuring win-win agreements. Taking the lead on high-level complex contract negotiations.
- Drive revenue growth by identifying new business opportunities, crafting compelling proposals, and closing deals.

Industry & Market Leadership:
- Serve as an industry thought leader, representing the company at conferences, webinars, and with key industry influencers.
- Continuously monitor competitor activity and market trends to keep our strategies ahead of the curve.

- Minimum of 7 years of experience in strategic account management or sales, with at least 3+ years managing e-commerce or digital retail accounts, specifically, Chewy.
- Experience managing a portfolio with high financial impact.
- Strong track record of growing key accounts and exceeding sales targets.
- Expertise in negotiating and selling complex integrated solutions.
- Strong financial and business acumen, with the ability to manage P&L for major accounts.
- Desire to coach and support peers operating as a trusted partner and senior team member
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while managing multiple high-priority accounts.
- Self-starter with a strong focus on results, able to prioritize and resolve issues effectively.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to use data and insights to inform decisions.
- Ability to manage budgets and demonstrate ROI on key initiatives.
- High attention to detail and a commitment to follow-through.
- Computer proficiency (MS Office, Outlook, and ability to learn Dechra systems).
- Ability and willingness to travel and work some evenings and overnights.
